I make cakes to raise money for the mission trips I take every summer with John Smithwick Ministries International. People often ask me how I do some of the decorations that are on the cakes.
Here’s a neat stain glass trick I’ve devolped for cakes….
How it’s Done:
Cut out whatever shape that you want in fondant. Here I’ve chosen a cross. Get suckers from your local store – they can’t have any extra candy in the center. You’re looking for something like Safe-T-Pops or Dum Dums. Place your unwrapped candy in a Zip Lock bag. Hit with a hammer until broken into peices. Take the candy peices and place them into the fondant. Cover a cookie sheet with foil and place the fondant cut out on the cooki sheet. Stick the cookie sheet in the oven just until the candy begins to melt. Presto Changeo…. You now have an eatable decoration for your cake….
PS – Watch your creation when it’s in the oven carefully… a few seconds longer and you will have a brown, burnt creation…
Have you ever just asked…. WHY ME?
Why am I going through this? Why are we always fighting this battle? Why is the economy so bad? Why. Why. Why.
My question is why not? We can go crazy trying to figure out the why and how of things. WHY don’t we just accept that stuff happens! Even for people who have a relationship with Christ…. We get so caught up in wineing about why. We need to realize that having a relationship with God doesn’t keep stuff from going wrong.
John 10:10 in the Amplified version of the Bible says
“The theif comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).”
So, that lets me know that no matter who you are, what background you come from, where you live, Satan, the theif, is going to seek to destroy your life.
So when bad things happen, instead of complaining and going around saying, “WHY WHY WHY???” Realize that Jesus came so you could enjoy life. Realize what Romans 8:28 Amp. says,
“We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design adn purpose.”
So, things are working for my good, even when I can’t see the good in it. God is in control. Nothing takes Him by suprise. He’s not in Heaven going…. “Oh no, what are we going to do? Did you see the stock market today in the USA? We are in big trouble!” The Bible says He doesn’t sleep. He is ever watchful over us!
Romans 8:31 Amp. Says, “What then shall we say to [all] this? If God is for us, who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?]
I encourage you to look at your situations that are in your life and say to your self, “What am I gonna say about all this? If God is for me, than there is no situation I’m facing that can prevail against me!”
I am not known for my gardening skills – those that know me will attest to that fact. In fact, we are considering fake plants for the back deck. lol
However, I at least know if a plant or tree of any kind does not have roots, it will not survive.
Another thing I know about gardening is when you plant a seed – before it will turn into a plant – the seed will die.
So, why am I writing so much information about plants? We ourselves are the same. When we come to know Christ and begin our relationship with Him. Our will, our “flesh” dies. We put away the old desires and wants, and we reprioritize our lives in line with the Word of God. By putting away the old habits and taking on new ones, we begin to grow in Christ. That’s what verse 6 of Colossians is talking about. It says “…(regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him.” We should as Pastor Larry – my Dad – has always told our church, “Live to make God look good.”
When the winds of life come, and they will, a person with shallow roots in Christ will tend to be rooted up. That’s why it’s so important to know the Word of God, the Bible.
Now, you don’t just wake up one day and say, “I’m completely rooted and grounded in Christ.” This is a process. You – as John Maxwell says – make the decision and manage the decision. It’s a daily commitment to chose right, to pray, to read the Bible, etc.
Just as a plant, you need time to grow. Some people never grow. (That’s a whole other blog in itself.) I encourage you to get roots in the right place – firmly and deeply planted in Christ. Then go live to make God look good…
